Intro Introducing

Hi, I'm Hananingsih Widhiasri, but you can call me Hana. Hanalogi Semata is my pseudonym. I've been passionately working as a visual artist, primarily focusing on illustrations, sketches, and designs. My artistic creations carry messages of diversity, local culture, and the interconnectedness among all living beings. I explore the relationships between humans and plants (flora) as well as humans and animals (fauna), encompassing both sociocultural and natural aspects of our world. Additionally, I have a keen interest in art and design research projects.Since 2020, I have been an active member of Kolektif Hysteria, and currently, I hold the position of a project manager at Hysteria Artlab. I would be delighted if we could meet in the future, have coffee or eat together, and establish a good relationship as work partners, friends, or companions. My sincere regards to you.

Digital Line Art Print Installation, exhibited at Tengok Bustaman IV, Kolektif Hysteria, Semarang, Indonesia

Tengok Bustaman is a biennial village festival organized by Kolektif Hysteria in collaboration with local residents to cultivate a thriving ecosystem in the realms of culture, history, and art within the community. This time, I had the opportunity to participate as an artist in a series of exhibitions held during the event.Inspired by the paranoia of Kampung Bustaman which is synonymous with Gulai Kambing Bustaman. I raise the figure of Bustaman as a figure who has contributed to the discovery of Kampung Bustaman's identity since the 19th century. The process of making Gulai Kambing Bustaman is slaughtering goats and carried out every day, should be given a new paradigm for the service and willingness to sacrifice these goats, and for their sacrifice to provide for the people of their village, I have describe them as happy in heaven with Ki Bustam. The character of Bustaman in the illustration is very identical to traditional Javanese clothing because he was borns from Java. The decorative style with the use of negative colors in the illustration is an attempt to give the impression of an atmosphere of the astral world. Because Bustaman has passed away but the myst, legend, and stories about him are still remembered.I also strengthened the Gulai Kambing element by adding the installation of wooden planks which are usually used to serve Gulai Kambing Bustaman.

Colored Hand Drawing on Fabric Print, exhibited at Pasar Branding Echo Tradistation

In this exhibition I took my daily objects as a art college student doing assignments, such items as cutters and paper punches, then I visualized them into items that could be sold by printing them on fabric, because this exhibition has the theme of Echotradition which combines technology but does not rule out other things that are ecological and traditional, so that I present the visual elements of plants that existed earlier in this world than anything else, which means they are always growing even in the midst of global acceleration. I manifest it in the form of a towel, which means a hope that development will never forget the past and keep washing each other.

Digital Line Art Illustration for commision works "Stage of Relationship", Semarang, Indonesia

These works visualizes the stages in establishing relationships between humans and alludes to how we relate to nature, the surrounding environment, or other living things besides humans. There are several cases where many animals are treated cruelly by humans, and do not receive proper protection as living beings. The visual is also a protest against several groups that trade animals, or use animals outside their natural nature. In this artwork, I express a profound love for the relationship between humans and animals, acknowledging that despite their wild nature, all creatures are created to complement one another, even in this untamed world.

2020

Digital Line Art for official Illustration "Udan Salah Mongso (Rain in the Wrong Season)",
Galeri Nasional x Kolektif Hysteria, Semarang

Udan Salah Mongso provides a subjective explanation. The first time that I could think of was suffering, an imbalance that should not have happened or should not have happened. So, in this case I took the figure of a woman as the object of my illustration work, because women are considered more adaptive in dealing with sudden changes and umbrellas as objects that have a relationship with rain.Described a woman (half mermaid) as a representation of a person's adaptive process in facing the worst conditions, for example if this world is only water without land. The upside down umbrellas are a symbol of rejecting rain, which is out of season, as explained by Udan Salah Mongso. Drowning hands are people who fail to adapt to the vicissitudes of life.

Childern Book llustration "Sigala Jataka Seri I & II", Universitas Negeri Semarang, Semarang, Indonesia

Illustrating the stories about Jataka of Borobudur Temple for the children's fable book "Sigala Jataka", a humorous story of Buddha and taken from one of the reliefs at Borobudur, Magelang, Indonesia. I describe many elements of joy in it, and still adhered to the decorative style with a placard technique.I poured them into the form of several merchandise such as tote bags, children's shirts, and various stickers, to engage more with the target market for book sales. Essentially, this is a requirement for the prototype of a senior college student's illustration exhibition in the Visual Communication Design department.

2021

llustration for Official T-Shirt "Mega Koalisi (National Birds Festival)", Borobudur Anual Event, Magelang, Indonesia

"Burung Garuda" is the Indonesian term for the mythical bird Garuda. In Indonesian and Hindu mythology, Garuda is a large, sacred bird that is often depicted as the mount (vehicle) of the god Vishnu. It is considered to be a symbol of power, strength, and protection. The Garuda is also the national emblem of Indonesia and is featured on the country's coat of arms and currency."Koalisi" is an Indonesian word that translates to "coalition" in English. It refers to a temporary alliance or partnership formed by different individuals, groups, or political parties to work together towards a common goal or objective. Koalisi is often seen in politics, where multiple parties with shared interests join forces to gain more influence or achieve certain policy objectives.I designed this illustration based on the taste of the client who asked for an illustration with dark colors and included the visual elements of Borobudur and the Garuda bird in the middle, then I combined it with my illustration style, namely tendrils so that it looks more decorative. The Garuda bird itself is the symbol of Indonesia, so I have to be careful with the description of the number of feathers so as not to miss the basic philosophy.

Mural for Tengok Bustaman V "Ingatan Bersama" Kolektif Hysteria x Kampung Bustaman (Place Making Art Project)

The Place Making Project is a project aimed at transforming a physical space into a more vibrant and community-oriented place. In this project, a curator team collaborates with local residents to create an engaging environment. During the project's implementation, local residents participate in community activities such as tree planting, street art, or local exhibitions. The main goal is to foster a sense of ownership and pride in their own community. Through active community participation, the project not only creates a better space but also enhances social bonds, interactions, and the overall quality of life in the surrounding area.In this section, artists are encouraged to explore the history of Kampung Bustaman in terms of its origins, significant events that shaped it, and the changes that have occurred over time. Through archival research and interviews with key figures in the village, artists unveil the pages of the past that might have been forgotten. Here, we can recognize the role of this village in the development of the city and its surrounding community. The curatorial writer conveys the fact that despite the many living legacies, some aspects of this village's history could be forgotten. The stories from the older generations that have disappeared, and scattered ancient objects/sites become the focus of research. The writer emphasizes the importance of preserving these memories to pass them on to future generations.

Layouting Flores Writers Festival program book "Ludung Wa Mai Tanan" Klub Buku Petra, Manggarai, Nusa Tenggara Timur, Indonesia

Ludung Wa Mai Tanan 'Sprouts from the Underground' is an allegory of the development of literature in NTT. Soil can be read in a plural sense: as identity, source, context, and, if necessary, something problematic in creative work, as seen in the recent works of authors from NTT.For example, the dominance of visual imagery in Mario F Lawi's work (Curator), in general reception, may be seen as a limited natural phenomenon in Indonesian poetry. However, if one reads it in relation to church history and tradition, the visionary imagery is rooted in the concept of "witness" in the Christian tradition. “Testimony” is another face of the Bible. Because, the calculation of the quality of Mario F Lawi's creative work needs to be assessed in terms of pragmatics (effect on the audience), namely the extent to which the image creates new images of things that are already familiar in the minds of Bible readers – something that might be difficult in the Indonesian (literary) context.

Tunggang Langgang is an art project that departs from the keywords archive and memory as a basis for ideas. Archives and memories have both interesting and problematic possibilities. Archives in their management have unlimited possibilities of preservation and reproduction.Meanwhile, memory has its own problems, namely the potential to be forgotten or forgotten due to human factors or systematically intentional. The two keywords above are projected onto Trunojoyo's historical narrative which is interesting to read or re-study, especially regarding his perspective and thinking technology which he tries to dialogue with today's reality.

Layouting & Cover Illustration for
"Sawego Ing Diri" Katalog Program PekaKota Institute & Kolektif Hysteria, Semarang

Different from most rural areas that have solid traditions, urban villages, including other areas like kelurahan in Semarang, are losing momentum in their annual festivals. Sometimes, the disappearance of these events coincides with state administrative agendas, as in the case of Wonolopo, which used to be part of the Kendal region but became part of Semarang City. This administrative change also affects the government structure in the area, where what was once a village with leaders chosen by the residents now becomes an urban village with a head appointed by the city government. Some traditional village positions, such as Jagabaya (a village guardian) and kepala dusun (hamlet chief), disappear. However, these positions often played important roles in preserving the village's culture in the past. With the end of these positions, the village festivals gradually fade away as well.Sobo Roworejo, just like Festival Bukit Jatiwayang, Gebyuran Bustaman, Panggilan Kali Semarang, and Susuk Wangan Randusari, are a few of the initiatives undertaken by Hysteria along with the villages to rediscover their traditions. Sometimes, these efforts succeed, and sometimes they don't. They may last for a considerable time, but sometimes they die out with the passing of courageous individuals who supported them.

Layout & Cover Design
for "Lima Tahun Nginguk Githok"
Kolektif Hysteria, Semarang

"Nginguk Githok" originates from two Javanese words, "nginguk" meaning to see and "githok" referring to the back of the neck or nape. The combination of these two words forms the meaning of seeing one's own nape, signifying something impossible unless this phrase is interpreted connotatively as an effort for self-reflection or self-awareness. This frame is eventually used to weave together the tradition of "sedekah bumi" (earthly offering) in Sekararum, which has probably been going on for tens or hundreds of years since the early days of the hamlet."Sedekah bumi," which has become a tradition, is reinterpreted in the contemporary context according to current issues or opportunities. After five years of this intervention, a post-event catalog has finally been compiled to mark what has been passed and what is projected in the future. This writing is just a brief introduction to the annual journey and selected themes, making each celebration have diverse articulations of various issues, avoiding repetitive monotony and lack of ideas. Throughout the last six years (excluding the pandemic year of 2020 with its restrictions), the event has been organized five times, with the following themes being raised. However, "Nginguk Githok" is an effort of recontextualizing the annual tradition of "sedekah bumi" in Sekararum Hamlet. Sekararum itself is not a village with a beautiful natural landscape typical of tourist villages. Reliant on rain-fed rice fields, the agricultural land is not highly productive. Recently, the rice fields have been extensively cultivated with tobacco. On the other hand, tracing the past in this hamlet reveals that it used to have numerous art groups whose DNA has been inherited by the current young generation, rich in ideas and creativity. The residents face social and economic issues in various ways, and "Nginguk Githok" is one of their attempts to seek breakthroughs. After five years, many critical questions arise. What is the outcome of these interventions? What are the benefits for the committee and the involved residents? Has this activity made the residents, especially the youth, think more critically and creatively about their village? Or is it merely a leisure activity and nothing more? Who benefits from this, and so on? Five years with rapidly changing players have not resulted in everything being well organized. Problems don't simply disappear; as one challenge is resolved, another arises. Each generation has its own period of heroism. One thing is certain, the journey is not over; the path has been laid out, and it remains to be seen whether the next relay will embrace these challenges or not.

Catatan Perjalanan II
"Perkawinan Priyayi Jawa di Tahun 1975"

After a year ago, "Melawat ke Timur" (Visiting the East) became my first Travel Journal. Finally, today I am releasing Travel Journal II. This journey may seem diverse, but only we know the whereabouts of the heart and mind. In this second travel journal, I share stories about the Javanese Priyayi Marriage in 1975 that I encountered during my stay in Wonogiri in the last few months. This journey takes us exploring the past, enjoying the beauty and uniqueness of Javanese cultural traditions and values surrounding marriage. In fact, the way it is conducted is not much different from modern Javanese wedding ceremonies today, but its classic appearance makes it captivating to experience through reading and visuals.

Title: Jalan Selamat
Media: Canvas Tent Installation & Light Stenciling (Zeotrop)

The profound connection between the practice of "sedekah bumi" and the cultural wealth of a community is a fascinating phenomenon. In Sekar Arum Village, Rembang, as well as Lalang Village, Belitung, we can observe how closely this relationship influences the social structure and dynamics of the society. This practice is rooted in the consensus of the residents, embedded in age-old traditions, and possesses a very strong sacred dimension. The sacredness attributed to "sedekah bumi" brings with it an extraordinary influence. It not only creates a bond between the residents and their cultural roots but also opens up space for more flexible and diverse forms of the profane. This effect extends even further, having a positive impact on economic growth and social stability in these villages. The importance of the sacred and profane dimensions in the tradition of "sedekah bumi" is not only related to material aspects but also to the quest for spiritual salvation and protection from worldly threats. Through this practice, the community finds a way to achieve tranquility, protect themselves from spiritual dangers, and maintain security from any potential threats. This is one of the valuable cultural riches that demonstrates the complexity of the interrelationship between tradition, social aspects, and the economy within a society.

Title: Anglelana Angidheri Bumi
Media: Bamboo Instalation, acrilyc on canvas & audio visual (240 x 400 cm);(50 x 50 cm);(3’:30” 1920x1080px)
